Happy Weekend

{a href="http://lookbook.nu/look/2553897-cape" target="_blank"} Image via Lookbook {/a}

It’s been a long week, and I’m pretty run down. My schedule is booked with lots of projects until early January, so I’ve got major work to do this weekend. But it’s design work – so it’s fun!

Next week is DIY week at Lovestru.ck, so I’m going to talk about all of the projects I did for the wedding. Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday!

Our Wedding: The cocktail hour

Rich and I wanted to take advantage of our small guest count and use a cocktail hour to welcome our guests in lieu of a receiving line. After we signed our marriage certificate, we took some photos with Em outside as our guests grabbed a drink from the bar and made their way to the spacious patio at 1316 Jones Street. Maggie and Brett, my bridesmaids, handed each guest a packet of biodegradable heart-shaped confetti at the patio door.

Rich and I made our grand entrance to the cocktail hour as our energetic guests showered us with confetti. The pictures perfectly capture the fun and excitement of that moment.

John Hansen and Steven Gregory, two of my good friends, entertained everyone with a variety of our favorite songs. They even surprised me with a few of their choices and brought tears to my eyes. Their music added so much to the atmosphere.

Rich and I have many great memories of eating at nice restaurants. We have our local favorites, and we always center our trips around well-known and innovative eateries. As self-proclaimed foodies, we spent a lot of time picking out the following canap

Happy Birthdays!

I turned 24 yesterday, and I want to thank everyone for the warm birthday wishes on facebook and twitter. It’s been an amazing year full of adventure – I started my own business and married my favorite person in the entire world. I’m so excited for what life will bring this upcoming year.

It’s my mom’s birthday today. We had a surprise 50th birthday party for her on Friday, and you can read all about it here! Happy Birthday Mom! I LOVE YOU!

A Surprise 50th Birthday Party

My dad hosted a surprise 50th birthday party for my mom on Friday, and he gave me free-reign to design and plan the event. With my sister’s help, we transformed my parents’ living room into an intimate and garden-themed setting with an elegant color scheme of peach, lavender, eggplant and ivory.

I created the invites using our color scheme and a beautiful script font, and I personalized them with one of my mom’s childhood photos. The deep purple envelopes stamped with gold ink were wrapped with pink and white baker’s twine and a tag that read “shhh… it’s a surprise!”.

My mom loved the cake at my wedding, so we had Lorraine Arthur recreate the banana cake with chocolate fudge filling for her birthday. Lindsay used some of the flowers I picked out to decorate the cake. I think it turned out so cute!

We used Juliet peach roses, lavender stock, pink spray roses, silver sage, rosemary, hydrangeas, dahlias, Hypericum and wax flowers to create a large centerpiece. I purchased beautiful cream fabric with a hounds-tooth pattern and sewed it into a 24 foot table runner. We also made small arrangements in mini ceramic flower pots for each place setting.

My mom was completely surprised, and I loved looking down the long dinner table and seeing her smile as she was surrounded by so many loving friends.

Fit Friday: Gluten – Friend or Foe

{a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/217045252/" target="_blank"}Image via Pinterest{/a}

October is National Celiac Disease Awareness month, so I thought it would be appropriate for me to talk about gluten intolerance and the disease that affects one out of every 133 people. Recent studies show that 97% of people who suffer from celiac disease don’t even know they have it. Diagnosis is on the rise as awareness increases, however there is still a general lack of education.
