AMAZING weekend full of great news

Via Daily Cup of Couture

The past three days have been crazy in the best possible way! I received amazing news TWICE on Friday. I couldn’t stop shaking I was so excited. I’ll be able to fill you in once everything is finalized in the next couple of weeks.

In addition to the great news, Lovestru.ck has officially been tricked out with the help of two new apple products. Hello productivity!

And lastly, I’m so proud to announce I have two new clients. These weddings are going to be packed with beautiful things and lots of fun!

I’ll be back later today with some inspiration in my wedding awards post.

Lovestru.ck Business Cards

I have admired Lesley Peterson’s work from the moment I walked past her adorable store front a few years ago. She creates the most beautiful and fun stationary items for numerous brides around the Omaha area, and her letterpress work is 100% original a 1000% amazing. Designing and printing my Lovestru.ck business cards gave me the first opportunity to work with this talented lady. You can’t tell from the pictures, but the cards are printed on shimmery stardream paper, so you’ll have to see them in person to really see how cute they are.

Check out more of Lesley work at Inclosed Studios here and here.

Ohh I wanna take ya to… Jamaica!

Rich and I decided to take an all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean rather than traveling to Europe as we originally planned. We had a great time. We didn’t have any added stress of planning transportation and accommodations around multiple European countries. Jamaica was exactly what we needed. It was the first time (in a very very long time) that I read a book for fun and watched a movie without simultaneously working on my laptop. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in work that I forget how much fun it is to do absolutely nothing.

Jamaica by the water

We stayed in Negril because our research said it had the best beaches (and no seaweed!). Rich had never been in the ocean, so it was fun to see his reaction to the warm, clear Caribbean water and white sandy beaches. We spent plenty of time floating in the ocean and in the pool, but we also went on a few excursions and tried some of the water sports offered by the resort.

Catamaran Cruise

I loved our catamaran cruise to the huge cliffs bordering the ocean. We got to jump and slide off the huge boat and swim into caves as bats fluttered over our heads. We also parasailed which provided the best view of Jamaica. It was like being on private hot air balloon tour. I also loved the stand-up paddle boards. I was an expert by the end of the week.

The resort provided some great food and drink options as well. I’m not a fan of rum-based drinks, so it took me a while to find my perfect drink among all the rum punches, cuba libres, and pina coladas. Towards the end of the trip, I filled up my complementary Magaritaville cocktail shaker (the only souvenir from our trip…) with delicious blackberry juice served at breakfast so Franklyn, our favorite bartender, could add it to the brut champagne offered at the resort. The juice added the right amount of sweetness for my bubbly cocktail.

In the Hammock

By day five, I started to get amped up for the work I had waiting for me in Omaha. I know I sound absolutely crazy, but I’m working with some really fun clients that have great ideas. My mind is exploding with different designs for their weddings. I was also getting really anxious to sit down and watch a Husker game. I wasn’t able to see any of the first three games because of the wedding/honeymoon, and I need to make our traditional corn pancakes for good luck!

Adventure

Jamaica gave us time to relax and recharge. I have to cherish the memories of our time there because now that we’re saving for a house, we don’t plan on going on any long vacations in the next two years. Good thing I have a husband that makes life at home fun and adventurous every day!

If any of you are looking to travel to the Caribbean, shoot me an email and I’ll send you my recommendations!

I'm back! (and posts you may have missed)

Image by Valerie Chiang Via Size too Small

Hi friends! I’m back from Jamaica and geared up to work on some exciting wedding projects! Rich and I had a blast in Jamaica, but after six days of relaxing in the sand, I was ready to get home so I could start working on my clients’ weddings. I wrote four posts last week (before the honeymoon of course), but they didn’t auto-post to my facebook wall, so I included them below in case you didn’t get a chance to read them:

I have some great posts lined up this week featuring some stunning nuptials in a wedding awards post, my interview with Jocelyn of Ready or Knot {Wedding Chic}, a recap of our honeymoon, and some nutrition tips in Lindsay’s Fit Friday post. It’s going to be a fun week!

Where there's a helpful smile…

Lindsay Lannan RD, LMNT

…in the Fort Omaha Hy-vee Health Market aisle!

Ok so my updated jingle doesn’t quite fit with the original tune, but I just wanted to announce that my wonderful sister, Lindsay, will be the new Hy-vee Dietician at the Fort Omaha location starting this October. She’s gonna rock it! Love you Winny!

And no worries – she’ll still be contributing bi-weekly to the Lovestru.ck blog with her Fit Friday Posts.

Check out Lindsay’s past work with Hy-vee here.

Rich’s 25th Birthday Cake – Photo by Me

Rich turned 25 yesterday, and I made this cake for him to take to work while he was recovering from his Bachelor Party he had the night before. I hope you enjoy it Nebraska Global!

Our Engagement Photos

Although we had our pictures taken a lot later than most engaged couples, I think our decision to wait allowed us enough time to come up with a concept that really showcased our relationship, and we were able to find Brighten Photography which perfectly complements our style. Ben and Whitney of Brighten effortlessly work together as if they can read each others minds, and they make the entire process so much fun. (You can see us hysterically laughing in a lot of our pictures.)

As a wedding planner, I have seen a lot of creative engagement sessions. I knew I wanted a lifestyle shoot rather than posed portraits because I wanted the photos to capture how Rich and I interact. I also knew this photography style would help me overcome my camera shyness.

Brighten took our pictures as Rich and I browsed the Lincoln Farmer’s Market. We chose this location because it’s important to us to reduce our carbon footprint and cook with local and fresh ingredients as much as possible.

Ben of Brighten chose our second location. He helped us “MacGyver” our way into an old school building. Most of the building had been refinished, but the auditorium and gym hadn’t been touched. They looked like they had been frozen in time.

Cooking with Your Honey

Cooking with your significant other is a great alternative to an expensive date night and a good opportunity to learn new cooking skills together (or practice patience if one of you is considerably more skilled than the other). Rich and I love to try new recipes, so I decided to start a monthly blog series sharing the best recipes we’ve found in blogs and magazines.

I’m more experienced in the kitchen, but Rich has been learning a lot as he has more time to cook during the week. He usually picks one to two new dishes to try each week. We store all of our recipes in a google spreadsheet, and we have a large collection of tested appetizers, entrees and desserts. The following links are some tasty (and easy!!) dishes we think you should try.

Bourbon Steak Sandwich
This sandwich is not your typical brown-bag sub. I could not stop eating the bourbon-marinated steak stacked between the ciabatta bread. We added gruyere cheese to accompany the roasted peppers and homemade tarragon mayonnaise called for in the recipe. This is a sandwich we’ll be sure to make again.

Thai Shrimp Halibut Curry
Rich and I have tried numerous curry recipes, and this is by far the best one we’ve made. The shrimp and halibut are a great alternative to classic chicken curry. This recipe is so delicious Rich might be able to convince me to stay home and make this rather than going out to our favorite Indian restaurant.

Grilled Chicken and Corn Salad With Avocado and Parmesan
Maybe it’s my Nebraska roots, but corn on the cob is one of my favorite foods. This salad uses a delicious combination of grilled corn, parmesean and avocado to dress up a traditional pairing of chicken and spinach. Be sure to try this recipe while you can still buy corn at your local farmer’s market.

Sister Act: Two Weddings in 8 months

My sister, Lindsay, and I are twenty months apart. We were best friends as adolescents, and in high school, we wavered between cross country teammates and mortal enemies battling over Maybeline eye shadow. Once Lindsay left for college, we melded back into a symbiotic relationship based on mutual experiences and hobbies. It wasn’t surprising that we got engaged around the same time, and I have always been more than excited that our weddings are eight months apart.

Aves Photography

Some brides might feel that their wedding is their time to shine, and that there should be a metaphorical (or physical) spotlight on them the entire day. In my opinion, weddings are about sharing your happiness and joy with your friends and family members, so I have enjoyed getting to share this special planning experience with my sister.

As much as we’re alike, we’re also very different. Those differences have made our duel-planning more interesting and all the more fun. I have had the chance to brainstorm decor for Rich and my floral whimsy wedding while designing Andrew and Lindsay’s Parisian chic wedding. I don’t want to give away too much, but you can expect lots of mood boards and pictures in future posts!

Via Bippity Boppity Boo

Even though we’ve enjoyed sharing our ideas, there are a few things to keep in mind if you and your sibling’s weddings are close together.

  • Listen to one another’s ideas – You’ll receive better feedback if you know you’re both willing to help the other person out.
  • Spend time doing activities unrelated to the weddings – Once the wedding days get close, you’ll realize that your lives will revolve around your upcoming nuptials. Enjoy each other’s company while you still have free time. You can always hire a wedding planner to help relieve stress too! 🙂
  • Figure out what works for your style, budget, and personality – Don’t compare your wedding to your sibling’s event and stick to what you love best!

Via We Heart It

I think both Lindsay and my fiance have come to understand the importance our relationship . We have countless inside jokes and shared memories, and I want nothing more to continue to grow together and create new memories.

I love you Winny!

Planning a Wedding in 4 Days…..

Last Monday, I received an email from a woman in Colorado asking to help coordinate her wedding in Iowa on Friday (yep that’s right, four days later…). Sensing the distress in her email, I jumped at the opportunity to help her. The couple was simply focused on getting married, so I worked with the Iowa County Clerk to coordinate the ceremony with a judge and make sure they had fulfilled all of the requirements for a marriage license.

No matter how big or small an event, it gives me so much satisfaction knowing that I helped a couple to achieve a huge milestone in their lives. I wish them all the best!

Rich and I had a fun weekend. We each tried different selections from the three-course menu at Bread and Cup, and we kept score on who picked the best from each course. Rich won with the best appetizer (caprese salad) and dessert (bacon ice cream), but my eggplant parmesean with pesto beat out his beef short rib for best entree. Rich took me to Harry Potter on Sunday. I’m proud to admit that I bawled my eyes out. Who wants to go see it with me again!?

Speaking of emotions, I have spent the last couple of weeks gathering pictures for our wedding slideshow. As I was grouping pictures together, I ran across this combination, and I couldn’t stop laughing. Can anyone tell which one is Rich and which one is me…? Some of you know that I was haunted by the bowl-cut as a child, and I think the picture below explains why.
