It all started with the dress. When Tracy from Rhylan Lang Bridal introduced me to Dori by Hayley Paige, I knew we needed to design a styled shoot around this whimsical gown. I started designing the shoot by pairing a soft lavender, inspired by Dori’s voluminous skirt, with a deep indigo color. This fresh palette along with Dori’s unexpected crop-top design, lead us to our mermaid-inspired shoot. A mermaid wedding sounds a little eccentric, but we used this inspiration to subtly guide the look and feel of the editorial shoot.
Attitude on Food provided a twist on traditional seafood with mussels on a half shell and seared scallops with seaweed salad and ginger foam. We nestled white-chocolate-covered cherry pearls in graham cracker sand for a bite-sized dessert option. Even the wedding cake had a variety of underwater textures (pearls, seashells, etc) applied in a monochromatic palette to keep the design refined and elegant. Our design team created an invite with saturated watercolor patterns and corroded metal details reminiscent of a sunken ship. Blooms and Bouquets added a mirror to the top of the head table to bring to mind the reflective nature of water. The message-in-a-bottle place cards and wave-like linens add to the cohesive design.
